Therese Macan, Ph.D., President 

Therese Macan, Ph.D., is the Managing Member of TM Leadership Solutions, LLC, where she advises organizations around the world on strengthening leadership capability and improving organizational effectiveness. With more than 35 years of experience, she works as an executive coach and consultant, helping organizations implement practical, evidence-based leadership and talent practices that support long-term success across industries including financial services, technology, consumer products, manufacturing, and sales. In addition to her consulting work, Therese spent nearly 30 years on the faculty at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, where she directed the Industrial-Organizational Psychology master’s and doctoral programs and mentored the next generation of I-O psychologists. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and is a Fellow of both the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the American Psychological Association. She earned her Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Rice University.


Beth Heinen, Ph.D., Membership Director       

Dr. Beth Heinen, a Director of Human Capital, with ICF, has more than 20 years of organizational research and human capital consulting experience. Dr. Heinen’s primary work activities include addressing workforce issues, such as workforce well-being; diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging; recruitment and retention; job analysis and selection; telework; competency modeling; and career pathing. In addition to project management, Dr. Heinen has extensive methodological expertise in people analytics, developing and administering surveys and hiring/promotional tests, conducting interviews and focus groups, and creating interactive dashboards. Dr. Heinen is the lead for people analytics and has worked to identify safe and effective ways to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) in organizations and into human capital research and implementation. Dr. Heinen has presented research at national conferences and published articles in scholarly journals and book chapters on these and other topics. Dr. Heinen has a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from George Mason University.


Lynn Bartels, Ph.d., Program Director

Lynn K. Bartels, Ph.D. recently retired as a Professor of Psychology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where she taught courses such as Employee Development and Employee Selection.  Her research focuses on interviews, assessment centers, and employment discrimination.  In addition to teaching and doing research, she also served as SIUE’s Faculty Development Director which involved leading activities for faculty including New Faculty Onboarding, workshops, book clubs, etc. She currently serves on SIOP’s Women’s Inclusion Network committee and does part-time consulting work in the areas of selection and assessment. 

Lynn earned a B.A. in Psychology from Ripon College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Akron. She and her husband have two grown daughters and she enjoys hiking, biking, and travel.

Allison Burrus, Ph.d., Treasurer and Webmaster

Allison is an Assistant Professor in the Business Department at Illinois College. She teaches undergraduate courses in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management. Her research interests include career calling, time management behaviors, and temporal awareness.

Allison earned her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Marketing from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL. After working for many years in various Accounting roles, she went on to receive her M.B.A. from the University of Illinois - Springfield. During this course work, she developed a passion for research and understanding organizational behavior. Allison went on to receive a Ph.D. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Missouri - St. Louis.

In her free time, Allison enjoys reading, running, going on adventures with friends, spending time with family, and hanging out with her husband and their dogs.


Lisa Roberts, Ph.D., Secretary/Historian and Communications Director

Dr. Lisa Roberts serves as Chief People Officer at Barry-Wehmiller Design Group, an Architecture/Engineering Consulting firm within the Barry-Wehmiller family of companies in St. Louis, MO. Since joining the firm in 2015, Lisa has played a crucial role in its success and growth, overseeing its expansion from fewer than 1,000 professionals to over 1,700 today. Under her leadership, the Design Group People Team manages a wide array of responsibilities, including talent and performance management, recruiting, compensation, HR support, benefits, and recognition programs. Before her role at Design Group, Lisa led Talent Management and Organization Development teams and programs as an internal consultant at Edward Jones, Burger King, and Anheuser-Busch. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Truman State University and a Master’s and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis.


Clair (Reynolds) Kueny, Ph.D., Past President

Clair (Reynolds) Kueny, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of Psychological Science Department at Missouri University of Science and Technology.   

She teaches graduate courses in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Ethics & Professional Practice, Organizational Development, and Employee Affect and Behavior. At the undergraduate level, she teaches on personality theory and undergraduate organizational psychology. Her research interests focus on reactions and interactions surrounding employee discretionary workplace behaviors, employee stress and well-being, and employee fit. Additionally, she has a special interest in working with healthcare professionals and applying I/O principles to the healthcare realm. As part of this interest, Clair works closely with healthcare organizations in rural Missouri, specifically looking at organizational processes to improve patient care and interprofessional team dynamics among healthcare professionals.

Clair earned BS degrees in Psychology and Political Science at Truman State University, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Saint   Louis University. Most of Clair's free time is spent corralling her two girls, Charlie and Killian, as well as her husband Steve, and two dogs, Mack and Hurley. The Kueny  family also grows giant pumpkins and takes them to competitions across the MidWest!
